Dr. William “Bill” Gensheimer is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained corneal and refractive surgeon. He is the Section Chief of Ophthalmology at the White River Junction VA Medical Center and Director of the Cornea Service at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. His clinical and surgical interests are primarily focused on advanced surgical techniques for complex corneal, cataract, and anterior segment disease. Dr. Gensheimer is an NIH funded researcher with research projects in the areas of corneal transplant surgery, ocular trauma, teleophthalmology, and corneal disease. As a surgical educator, he is a strong advocate for simulation training and improving surgical outcomes and safety. He has taught ophthalmic surgery to residents for his entire career with residents from Georgetown / Washington Hospital Center, Walter Reed National Military Center, and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, where he directs the surgical wet laboratory curriculum. Dr. Gensheimer previously served in the United States Air Force and deployed to Afghanistan. He held several leadership positions while active duty including Ophthalmology Element Leader and Surgical Specialties Flight Commander at Joint Base Andrews.
